1936 FLOOD

Mom talks about the 1936 flood in Pittsburgh. It was St.Patrick's Day weekend. Aunt Elma and Uncle Kenneth and kids lived along the river and they just moved in for a week.

Mom was only 5 and Buffy 6, in first grade. Mom and the other kids
LOVED having Kenny and Gladys there.

One day Buffy decided that it was a
great idea to take little Abbie and little Kenny

with her to her first grade class.
So they all got up early, got dressed and went downstairs. "MUM" asked,
"Where are you three going?"
and they said they're going to school with Buffy.

And Mum said,
"No you're not." Apparently, Mum didn't think much of their idea.

"We lived on the hill in Rochester and I remember looking at the river and everything floating down it. I remember animals, cows, some living, some dead."
After the flood, dams were implemented to prevent that from happening again.
